The Roof Of The World

http://amazingonlinefacts.blogspot.com/
Did you know that Tibet is called the roof of the world?

Roof, being the uppermost part of a home that serves as the top covering for protection against the rain and the sun's heat as well as the wind and snow, is one of the most vital aspects of every home or building.

There are many types of roof around the world. Originally, there were only flat roofs. Then, the slope or pitched roofs became more popular and they range from mono-pitched to multiple- pitched ones. As people became more artistic and sophisticated, various roof shapes from pyramidal to circular to arched roof and even hyperbolic became possible. Unlike in the past where roofs are simply made out of leaves, straw, or branches, nowadays, there are many varieties of roofing materials and techniques home owners can choose from.

Why is Tibet called the Roof of the World?

Because of its two main characteristics -- highest and biggest!

First, it consists of a vast and elevated plateau, covering an area of approximately 500,000 square miles or 1.3 million square kilometers.

Secondly, it is one of the highest regions on earth, surrounded by the world's highest mountains. In the north is the Kunlun mountains, In the south is the Himalayas. And in the west is the Karakoram mountain system.
