How the Veterans Started Outplacement

http://amazingonlinefacts.blogspot.com/
It can be said that the history of the outplacement industry is interesting. It has been known to be in existence since the period after World War II. When the war was finally over, the soldiers coming home found that the jobs they had prior to the war were no longer available. Hence, they decided to seek help from persons who could provide assistance and counseling to help them advertise the skills they had before the war broke out into the job market.

The assistance that were provided for the former soldiers included reviewing their past job experiences, interpreting these job experiences into up-to-date terms in the labor market, writing their resumes, and looking for available jobs. It was Bernard Haldane who is said to be the first person to offer employment search assistance to veterans coming home at the request of the Mayor of New York. The success of Haldane's stint with the veterans produced Bernard Haldane Associates, his very own firm selling job search assistance.

Today, such assistance is called outplacement service and is offered by firms and agencies specializing on helping laid off employees find new jobs through such ways as updating LinkedIn Profiles, writing resumes, interview coaching, and writing a good cover letter.
