A Brief History Of NEBOSH

leading NEBOSH online training course provider
NEBOSH, or National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, is one of the most sought-after qualifications of people in the health and safety industry.

NEBOSH does not deliver health and safety training courses; it only provides syllabuses, exams and assignments to accredited course providers such as RoSPA and IOSH. These organizations then deliver relevant training courses to prepare candidates for NEBOSH qualifications.

NEBOSH is mainly an examination board of the United Kingdom which is concerned with providing certification courses in subjects such as safety and health, environmental issues and risk management. These vocational trainings are done based on the syllabus and assessment methods as approved by NEBOSH. At present, over 80 countries from across the globes have the centres that provide for NEBOSH courses and training programmes.

Background Of NEBOSH

The Health and Safety at Work Act in 1974 laid down the general principles for the management of health and safety at work in England. This legislation, together with the establishment of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Health and Safety Commission (HSC), led to more importance being placed on occupational safety and health by UK employers from the mid-1970s onwards.  This also led to the role of health and safety officer and health and safety manager becoming more widespread in British workplaces.

NEBOSH was officially established in September 1979 to meet a need for the provision of vocational qualifications in the area of occupational safety and health. The organization started their operations from the offices of IOSH in Leicester.

In June 1980, the first NEBOSH Associate level and Member level examinations took place. At this time, the candidates sat five papers: Law, Behavioural Science, Techniques
