wall construction trivia
The world is full of famous historical landmarks. These landmarks, which are, of course, popular tourist attractions, can either be natural or man-made. Although there are more natural landmarks, there are a lot of man-made ones that have their fair share of following and amount of popularity.

Certain old grand walls are some of the most famous man-made structures that are considered landmarks and hence, must be preserved. Aside from being wondrous to look at, they served an important purpose in the past and are therefore part of a country’s heritage.
Below are some of the most famous walls in the world:

The Great Wall of China. Considered one of the longest and largest structures in the world, the Great Wall of China was built in the 14th century. The wall stretches for 8,850 kilometres. The wall was originally constructed to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire from the attacks of nomadic tribes.

The Walls of Troy. Located in Turkey, the Walls of Troy is one of the oldest walls still standing today. This wall was built in the 13th century BC in order to protect the legendary city of Troy. This wall is also known for having withstood the famous 10-year siege of Troy.

The Western Wall. Also known as the Wailing Wall, this famous structure can be found in Israel and it is a famous Jewish religious site. It is said that this wall was constructed around 19 BC by Herod the Great. In Judaism, the Western Wall is venerated as the sole remnant of the Holy Temple and as such, it is the holiest place for Jewish people and one of the most visited sites in Jerusalem and Israel.
